Go to the web site where the images on the study list for Mesoamerica and Native America are displayed. Use these images to answer the following questions. Be sure to write essays in full sentences. I will expect organized, well-thought-out answers that give specific information since you are able to use your notes. If you use your readings or other sources you must cite your sources and may not plagiarize. You must refer to specific images as required.

1. Three of the slides from the Maya culture represent members of the elite in different contexts. How do these works tell us how the Maya elite functioned in their society? (Write at least a one page essay - 15 points)
2. In Mesoamerica, from an early period, cities were organized around a ceremonial center. The city was often organized with relationship to both the earth and the heavens and great buildings were built for ceremonial purposes and connected to rulers. Use three images displayed to discuss aspects of Mesoamerican cities and the structures built in them. (Write at least a one page essay - 15 points)
3. How has Native American art been used to influence the world. Pick two works that are used in ceremonies to have a specific effect on the world and discuss how they are used to do this. (Write at least a one page essay - 15 points)
4. Look at the work by Howling Wolf. Discuss how this work uses multiple points of view and represents the world on a flat surface. Be specific and give examples. (write a good paragraph - 10 points)
5. Pick one work from all the Mesoamerican and Native American images that you think would be considered fine art from a traditional Western point of view and one that you think would be considered craft. Discuss the characteristics of these works that would make them fit into such categories. (Think about some of the characteristics you discussed in your group in class.) What do you think about these categorizations? Do you agree or disagree and why? (write at least a one page essay - 15 points)
